Are you in 7th or 8th grade?
Are you totally confused about what we do in worship every Sunday?
Are you tired of being a “kid” in your church family?
Are you looking for a way to make God make sense to you?
Worship Discovery is for you.
How it works: On Sunday morning, look in the narthex (that’s the little lobby in the back of the sanctuary) for your adult mentors. It might be a different adult than the last time you were in worship. They’ll have a worship reflection for you and a clipboard. You’ll sit together in worship and you’ll notice how those themes connect with your experience of worship. Your families can worship with you too, if you want.
When does this happen: This begins on September 18, 2011. There will be adult mentors (almost) every time we have worship on Meetinghouse Hill. There’s a schedule though. It looks like this. On those days where there is no Worship Discovery, we hope you’ll continue to worship and explore your faith.
What happens in the post-worship conversations: As you’ll see on the schedule, there are two opportunities every month to talk about what you’ve noticed in worship both within and outside of the monthly themes. These conversations will be led by your adult mentors right after worship in the Laity Room for about 30 minutes. Your parents can chill in coffee hour.
What we hope: This program has been created because we think 7th and 8th graders are mature enough to have some more adult conversations. We recognize that Sunday School doesn’t really work for you. We want to treat you more like adults — and we also want you to discover all of the wonderful things we find in worship.
