With the gifts of our volunteer teachers, we use a curriculum called the Seasons of the Spirit to explore meaning and mystery in the Bible; celebrate in worship, sacraments, education, and service; engage in ministries of love, justice, and witness; and live in inclusive communities of faith, shaped and led by the Holy Spirit. We offer six traditional Sunday School classes for the following age groups:

  • Preschool (Ages 3-4)
  • Kindergarten (Age 5)
  • Grades 1 and 2 (Ages 6-7)
  • Grades 3 and 4 (Ages 8-9)
  • Grades 5 and 6 (Ages 10-11)
  • Grades 7 and 8 (Ages 12-14)

If you’re interested in registering for this meaningful experience that offers both children and adults to engage in their faith, please register for all Family Formation programs with this form.

On the first Sunday of the month, our children from Grades K-6 take a break from their usual Sunday School classes for a different kind of learning experience. They begin in the chapel to expand their knowledge of God with Anne Fuehrer, our Director of Children and Family Ministries and special guests from the church community. The children then move upstairs and rotate through activities relating to the topic presented in the chapel. Children maybe picked up in the 5/6  grade classrooom wing.

Preschoolers are invited to continue classes with Mrs. McAloon and Nursery care is provided for infants and toddlers. 7th and 8th grades are welcome to participate in worship or assist with the large group activities.

A favorite spring tradition, this program for 3rd and 4th graders began in 1989 with Debbie Riley and Loretta Pond.  In 2011, Deb Dagnan and Beth Hess took on the challenge to continue to teach the three afternoon classes through a combination of discussion, games, snacks and song.  The children are engaged in the competition of the games and learn to navigate through the Bible at a rapid speed in order to be successful in the games.  It is an opportunity that adds to the Sunday School experience so that our youth have a better understanding of the 66 books in the Old and New Testaments.  Each year, the program concludes with a presentation of Bibles in Sunday worship and the congregational singing of The New Testament Books of the Bible song, led by our newest graduates. Dates and times for 2016 are TBD.

We honor our children on CHILDREN’S CELEBRATION SUNDAY which will be May 22, 2016! On the Sunday of this special worship experience, our children lead us in worship, prayer and song as we celebrate their presence in our community.

The nursery is overseen by our Director of Children of Youth Ministries, with advisement by an informal team of Early Childhood Development specialists. Our  little ones are cared for each week by volunteers: One Adult and one -two caring youth helpers who serve our church every Sunday. Each volunteer is asked to submit  an application for a background check. This September our nursery was relocated upstairs next to the Community Room and comfortably situated between the Kindergarten and Pre-school classrooms.

If you have a child between the ages of 4 months and 3 years, please consider visiting the nursery. It’s  a great way for your little one to spend time with our church family.

Our Vacation Bible School is a vibrant and engaging way to great summer and end the program year at First Congregational Church. It is a week long, half day camp for kindergarten –sixth grade. Every  year a different  theme is chosen to highlight the scripture passage each day, along with hands-on activities reinforcing the message.
