Sunday School

From September to May, Sunday mornings offer a wonderful opportunity for our children to delve into discovery of God’s creation. Sunday School classes are offered from the Children’s Time (or Children’s Sermon) in worship until 11:15 AM for children from three years old to eighth grade.

With the gifts of our volunteer teachers, we use a curriculum called the Seasons of the Spirit to explore meaning and mystery in the Bible; celebrate in worship, sacraments, education, and service; engage in ministries of love, justice, and witness; and live in inclusive communities of faith, shaped and led by the Holy Spirit. We offer four traditional Sunday School classes for the following age groups:

  • Preschool (Ages 3-4)
  • Kindergarten, Grades 1 and 2 (Ages 5-7)
  • Grades 3 and 4 (Ages 8-9)
  • Grades 5 and 6 (Ages 10-11)

If you’re interested in registering for this meaningful experience that offers both children and adults to engage in their faith, please register for all Family Formation programs with this form.

Sunday School Open House

If you’re curious to learn more about our Sunday morning programs for children from Pre-K to Grade 8, come to our Sunday School Open House on Sunday September 11. After worship, our teachers will be in their classrooms to orient you and your child. You can learn about our curriculum and make new friends before Sunday School begins on September 18.

CHRIST KID’S CLUB

Once a month, our children from Kindergarten to Grade 6 break out of their curriculum-based learning for Christ’s Kids Club. This is a progressive approach to learning for children, which has youth go beyond Bible knowledge and explore who we are and what we do as Christians through kid-friendly multimedia such as art, drama, music and games. In 2011-2012, we’ll continue using the United Church of Christ’s Faith Practices to explore stewardship. The materials explain:

For many, stewardship is only or primarily about money and tithing. This Exploration intends to help individuals and churches discover and imagine possibilities of what it means to live into a Christian sense of stewardship that involves all of life. We will explore both what stewardship can mean and how we might integrate it with our life experiences. Because God is still speaking, we listen, envision, and embrace our responsibility as God’s people, drawing upon the stories found in Scripture and the importance of continuing and sharing the story of what it means to be a disciple who is living stewardship.

WORSHIP DISCOVERY

In 2011, we’re experimenting with a new program for 7th and 8th graders.  We’re calling this opportunity Worship Discovery which offers a 2-year cycle of worship-related monthly themes.  This is not your average Sunday School experience. We recognize that 7th and 8th grade youth are budding as young adults. This program seeks to engage their questions. Learn more here.

BIBLE DISCOVERY WORKSHOP

This program for 3rd and 4th graders began in 1989 with Debbie Riley and Loretta Pond.  In 2011, Deb Theriault and Beth Hess continue to teach the three afternoon classes through a combination of discussion, games, snacks and song.  The children are engaged in the competition of the games and learn to navigate through the Bible at a rapid speed in order to be successful in the games.  It is an opportunity that adds to the Sunday School experience so that for our have a better understanding of the 66 books in the Old and New Testaments.  Each year, the program concludes with a presenation of Bibles in Sunday worship and the congregational singing of The New Testament Books of the Bible song led by our newest graduates. Dates and times for 2012 are TBD.

CELEBRATION SUNDAY

We honor our children on CELEBRATION SUNDAY which will be June 3, 2012! On the Sunday of this special worship experience, our children lead us in worship, prayer and song as we celebrate their presence in our community. After church, we will share in food and fellowship at an All-Church Picnic!
